Abstrak The primary impact of online gaming is addiction. The issues arising from online game addiction are concerning as they can alter the behavior and mindset of adolescents. Globally, there are 2.3 billion online gamers, with 1.2 billion, or 50%, located in the Asia-Pacific region. In Indonesia, the estimated number of active online gamers reaches 73.7%, with approximately 196.7 million users. Data from SMP Negeri 16 Palu indicates that among seventh-grade students, there are 37 individuals with mild addiction, 88 with moderate addiction, and 37 with severe addiction. In the eighth grade, the figures are 61 for mild addiction, 60 for moderate, and 29 for severe addiction. This study aims to explore the online game addiction behavior among students at SMP Negeri 16 Palu. The research employs a qualitative case study approach, with eight informants selected through purposive sampling. Data processing utilized a matrix technique. The findings show that the adolescents' attitudes toward online gaming are generally positive and perceived as beneficial. Subjective norms indicate a supportive environment, where peers encourage gaming behaviors and mutual support is prevalent, facilitated by home Wi-Fi access. However, perceived behavioral control reflects a low level of control, as informants find it challenging to manage their online gaming addiction. Although the adolescents express adesire to control or reduce their gaming time, environmental influences and curiosity often lead them to play longer than intended. |
