Abstrak ABSTRAK Puyuh memiliki potensi yang cukup besar untuk dikembangkan dalam rangka memenuhi kebutuhan masyarakat akan protein hewani, karena selain dapat dimanfaatkan dagingnya, puyuh sangat produktif dalam menghasilkan telur. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh pemberian hidrolisat kitosan cangkang keong sawah (Pila ampullacea) terhadap pH ileum dan pertumbuhan mikroba saluran pencernaan burung puyuh petelur. Dua ratus ekor burung puyuh betina berumur 8 minggu periode bertelur, ditempatkan pada kandang individu secara acak (Rancangan Acak Lengkap) dalam lima perlakuan dan lima ulangan. Burung puyuh dipelihara selama 8 minggu. Perlakuan yang dicobakan P0 = ransum dasar tanpa penambahan prebiotik, P1 = ransum dasar + 100 ppm hidrolisat kitosan cangkang keong, P2 = ransum dasar + 200 ppm hidrolisat kitosan cangkang keong, P3 = ransum dasar + 300 ppm hidrolisat kitosan cangkang keong dan P4 = ransum dasar + 400 ppm hidrolisat kitosan cangkang keong. Peubah yang diamati yaitu potensi hidrogen (pH) dan total populasi bakteri ileum. Hasil analisis ragam menunjukan bahwa penggunaan hidrolisat kitosan dalam ransum berpengaruh sangat nyata (P<0>0,05) terhadap total populasi bakteri. Olehnya itu dapat disimpulkan bahwa pemberian hidrolisat cangkang keong sawah sebesar 400 ppm menurunkan nilai pH saluran pencernan burung puyuh dari 7,26 (P0) menjadi 7,07 (P4) dan tidak memberikan pengaruh terhadap jumlah populasi mikroba ileum burung puyuh petelur. Kata Kunci: Burung puyuh, kitosan, prebiotik, saluran pencernaan ABSTRACT Quail is potentially to be developed to meet the human’s need for animal protein, because apart from being able to use its meat, quail is very productive in producing eggs. This study aims to determine the effect of hydrolyzated of chitosan shell of rice snail (Pila ampullacea) on the ileal pH and the growth of digestive tract microbes of laying quail. Two hundred female quails, aged 8 weeks laying eggs, were randomly placed in individual cages (Completely Randomized Design) in five treatments and five replications. Quail were kept for 8 weeks. The treatments tested were P0 = basic diet only, P1 = basic diet + 100 ppm snail shell chitosan hydrolyzate, P2 = basic diet + 200 ppm snail shell chitosan hydrolyzate, P3 = basic diet + 300 ppm snail shell chitosan hydrolyzate and P4 = diet base + 400 ppm of snail shell chitosan hydrolyzate. The observed variables were the potential for hydrogen (pH) and the total bacterial population of the ileum. The results of the analysis of variance showed that the use of chitosan hydrolyzate in the ration had a very significant effect (P<0>0.05) on the total bacterial population. Therefore, it could be concluded that administration of 400 ppm of rice snail shell hydrolyzate reduced the pH value of the digestive tract of quail from 7.26 (P0) to 7.07 (P4) and had no effect on the number of ileal microbial populations in laying quail.
