Abstrak
Background: Typhoid fever remains a public health problem globally. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimated that the global incidence of typhoid fever in 2019 was around 9 million cases with 110,000 deaths each year. This study aims to describe the characteristics of typhoid fever patients in the city of Palu, including age, clinical symptoms, residential areas, and laboratory examinations. Method: This study utilized a descriptive observational method with a cross-sectional approach. Total sampling was employed, with a sample size of 91 patients. The research instrument utilized secondary data from medical records, presented in descriptive frequency analysis using SPSS software version 23. Results: The frequency distribution of typhoid fever patients from Palu admitted to Undata Central Sulawesi Regional Hospital in the years 2019-2022, based on age, adults (74.7%), children (18.7%). Distribution based on gender, males (36.3%), females (63.7%). Distribution of residential areas, Mantikulore District (42.9%), South Palu District (23.1%), and East Palu District (16.5%). Distribution of clinical symptoms, fever (93.4%), nausea (40.7%), vomiting (38.5%), epigastric pain (25.3%), and headache (24.2%). Distribution of laboratory examinations, Widal test (47.3%) and Tubex TF® test (52.7%). Conclusion: The frequency distribution of typhoid fever patients from Palu admitted to Undata Central Sulawesi Regional Hospital in the years 2019-2022 indicates a majority of adults (18-64 years old), with a higher distribution among females. The majority of patients are from the Mantikulore region, with the main symptom being fever, and the Tubex TF® test as the dominant laboratory examination method.
