Abstrak
ABSTRACT Background: Analgesics are drugs used to reduce or eliminate pain. Self- medication is defined as taking medicine on one's initiative or on the initiative of someone who does not meet medical requirements. Based on survey data from the Central Statistics Agency in 2019, 71.46 per cent of Indonesians had self-medication. This figure has continued to rise over the last three years. In 2017, it was 69.43 percent, and in 2018 it was 70.74 percent. The results of the National Socio-Economic Survey in 2014 showed that the percentage of the population who did self-medication due to health complaints experienced was 61.05%. This shows that the behavior of self- medication in Indonesia is still relatively large. Indonesian people do self-medication or self-prescribing because the disease is considered mild (46%), the medicine price is lower (16%), and the medicine is easy to get (9%). Methods: This study was observational research using a cross-sectional design. The sample consisted of 101 respondents aged 18-60 who live in Palu. The data were collected through questionnaires to assess knowledge about self-medication. Results: The research on the Kawatuna community regarding the knowledge of analgesic drugs and self-medication shows that the Kawatuna community has a low level of knowledge of 11.9%, enough knowledge of 73.3%, and a good level of knowledge of 12.9%. People who have enough knowledge and do self-medication is 90% of respondents. The drug most often used is paracetamol, with a percentage of 63.4%. Conclusion: The Kawatuna community has sufficient knowledge about the self- medication of analgesic drugs. The drug most frequently used is paracetamol.
