Background: The main function of the nasal is to filter the air that enters during inspiration and to protect the lungs from the influence of air that contains bacteria and pollutants, by having a defense system of the nasal mucosa. The mucociliary transport system is an important defense mechanism in the system of the nasal mucosa. Mucociliary transport functions to maintain the health and defense of the nasal to prevent infection. Smoking can cause mucociliary damage so that it affects the system function of mucociliary cells which can trigger an infection in the nasal cavity. Objectives: To determine the time of nasal mucociliary transport in smoker and nonsmokers at Tadulako University. Method: The research design used was observational analytic with Cross Sectional approach. The sample consisted of 2 groups; 15 smokers students of research subjects and 15 non-smokers students of research subjects. The analysis uses independent T test. Results: The study showed that there was an extended mucociliary transport time for smokers with an average time for smokers 17.17 minutes while for nonsmokers 6.39 minutes with p values <0.05. Conclusion: There is an extension of the Mucociliary transport time in smokers compared to nonsmokers. Keywords : Nasal, Mucociliary, Smoker, Student, Tadulako University
