Abstrak Bamboo is one of the known non-timber products and its existence is still widely spread in Indonesia. In addition, bamboo can be used to replace wood materials in the field of building construction due to the depletion of wood production. Bamboo is also very often used by the Toraja people in their daily lives, especially betung bamboo. This study aims to determine the physical and mechanical properties of betung bamboo based on the position of the stem height. Testing of physical properties using Indian standards (IS 6874, 2008) and testing of mechanical properties using British Standards (BS 373: 1957). The results showed that the treatment of position on the stem (bottom, middle, top) made a difference to the value of fresh moisture content and air dry moisture content, but did not make a difference to the density value. The treatment of bark presence (with bark and without bark) and the treatment of position on the stem (bottom, middle, top) did not make a difference to the MOE and MOR values. The physical properties of betung bamboo obtained are average fresh moisture content of 66,21%; average air dry moisture content of 14,3%; average density of 0,75 g/cm2. The mechanical properties of betung bamboo obtained are average MOE with bark 324691,12 kg/cm2 ; average MOE without bark 307057,89 kg/cm2; average with bark MOR 1970,56 kg/cm2; average MOR without bark 1799,66 kg/cm2 |
