Abstrak Indonesia has the largest mangrove ecosystem area in the world, namely around 3,2 million hectares or 22,6% of the world’s mangrove forest area. According to data from the nasional Mangrove Map, in 2021 the area of mangroves in the Central Sulawesi region reached 1,114.46 Ha. From this data it can be seen that there is a decline in the mangrove forest population in Central Sulawesi. However, previously based on the Governor’s Decree after the 2012 decision, mangrove forests in Central Sulawesi were at 46,000 Ha. This research will carry out the health level of mangrove vegetation using the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) value as a remote sensing technique and using Sentinel-2 satellite imagery. Then for direct measurements in the field using the Mangrove Health Index (MHI) by taking plots using stratified random and purposive sampling methods based on dense, medium and rare criteria which are analyzed using the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI). 25 plots were taken consisting of 8 sparse plots, 9 dense plots, and 8 medium plots with a size of 10 x 10 m. The Mangrove Health Index (MHI) is determined based on the parameters of percentage canopy cover, tree diameter and number of saplings. Based on the results of mangrove health data in Banawa District, the sparse and medium density classes are in the medium category and the dense density class is in the good category.
