Abstrak Remote sensing techniques are an alternative that can be used to facilitate monitoring of mangrove forests. This technique has a wide reach and can map areas that are difficult to reach by land travel. One of the remote sensing data that can be used to monitor mangrove forests is Landsat 8 Imagery. This research was conducted for three months, from May to July 2023. The research location is located in Sausu District, Parigi Moutong Regency between 120?27’02”- 120?30’22” E and 1?2’19”- 1?6’05” S. The method in this research is using the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) method. NDVI is a standard method used to compare the level of greenness of vegetation in plants because it is sensitive to the chlorophyll content of plants. From the results of the interpretation and classification of Landsat 8 images recorded in 2022 in Sausu District, Parigi Moutong Regency, it was found that the total area of mangrove forest in Sausu District, Parigi Moutong Regency in 2022 was 271.95 Ha. The level of density of mangrove forest vegetation in Sausu District, Parigi Moutong Regency in 2022 is based on the percentage level of density which is divided into three categories, namely: Rare 3.38% as wide as (9.20 Ha), medium 1.20% as wide as (3.28 Ha) and dense 95.41% area (259.47 Ha). The accuracy test results from the confusion matrix table obtained an accuracy percentage of 87.5%.Remote sensing techniques are an alternative that can be used to facilitate monitoring of mangrove forests.
