Abstrak The nature of a type of wood is datermined by the anatomical structure of the wood making up cells in addition to the chemical components of the cell walls. In addition to studying the anatomical structure of wood, knowlegde of the morphology (shape and size) of fiber cells, an important component of wood, is also needed. Uru (Magnolia tapacca (L.) Figlar & Noot) is one of the typical Indonesian plants and is endemic to Sulawesi. This plant belonging to the magnoliacea tribe has a distrubution in Sulawesi and Maluku. Information on the quality of uru wood fiber is still very limited. This study aims to examine the dimension of the fiber and the value of the ferivative of uru wood fiber based on the radial direction. The main material used for uru wood (Magnolia tsiampacca (L.) Figlar & Noot) is 15 years old with a tree circumfarence of 85 cm. Mesarasi prepations were made according to frankli’s transforming method. Measurement of fiber dimensions (legth, fiber diameter, lumen diameter and fiber wall thickness) was carried out on 20 intact individual cells. Fiber quality class based on fiber leght and dimensional derivative value. The results of the measurement of fiber dimensions show that the legth of the of wood fiber is 1343.6 m, the fiber diameter is 38.90 m, the lumen diameter is 28.38 m, and rhe fiber wall thickness is 5.27 m. The grain size of uru wood is classified as medium fiber legth, large fiber diameter and very large lumen diameter and thin walls. The results of the calculation of the fiber derivative values include the Runkel ratio (0.38), Felting power (35.16), Flexbility ratio (0.72), coefficient of rigidity (0.14), and mulhsteph rati (47.19%). Uru wood fiber as a whole has a value of 325 and is classified as Quality II class with a value between 225 – 449.
