Abstract Johar (Senna siamea Lamk) is one of the seeds that takes a long time to germinate, one of the factors that can overcome the problem of dormancy in johar seeds is the scarification technique or pre?treatment to accelerate seed germination. This research was conducted for 2 months from the beginning of September to October 2022 in the permanent nursery of BPDAS Palu Poso, Tadulako University, Palu. This study used a completely randomized design with a factorial pattern consisting of 2 factors. The first factor was seed scarification consisting of S0 = without scarification, S1 = seeds soaked in hot water with an initial temperature of 100oC for 24 hours, S2 = seeds soaked in distilled water at 25oC for 24 hours, S3 = seeds soaked in young coconut water with a temperature of 25oC for 24 hours. The second factor germination media consists of. M0 = soil, M1 = soil mixed with rice husk charcoal ratio (2:1), M2 = soil mixed with sand ratio (2:1), so there are 12 treatment combinations and repeated 3 times and each repetition consists of 10 seeds, then the number 360 seeds used. The results of the analysis of variance showed that the best physical scarification treatment was treatment S2 = seed soaked in aquadest at 25oC for 24 hours, germination percentage was 64.4%, germination rate was 8.14 days, root length was 16.1 cm, wet weight was 7.67 g . Significantly different from the treatments S0, S1, and S3. The best germination medium in treatment M1 = soil mixed with rice husk charcoal, germination percentage was 55.83%, root length was 15.9 cm, and basal weight was 7.49 g. Significantly different from the treatment of M0 and M3 Keywords : Dormancy, germination, johar, scarification
