Abstrak
Infection is a disease that causes the death of 13 million people in the world every year, especially in developing countries such as Indonesia. One way that can be done to prevent infectious diseases is to increase the immune system in various ways, one of which is the use of immunomodulators. This study was conducted to determine the effect of a combination of 70% ethanol extract of Begonia medicinalis and Moringa leaf extract as well as the effective dose as an immunomodulator in male white rats of Wistar strain with IFN-? level parameter. Wistar strain male rats were divided into 5 groups, given treatment for 7 days orally each as follows: Group I: 0,5% Na-CMC, group II: Stimuno, group III: combination of 100 mg/kgBB : 100 mg/ kgBB, group IV: a combination of 200 mg/kgBB : 100 mg/kgBB, and group V: a combination of 300 mg/kgBB : 100 mg/kgBB. On the 8th day, the animals were infected with Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923, then they were dissected and the blood of each test animal was taken to test for IFN-? levels using the ELISA Reader. The data were analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis nonparametric test and continued with the Mann-Whitney post hoc test. The results showed that the levels of IFN-? in each group were 18,88 pg/mL, 49,18 pg/mL, 218,42 pg/mL, 114.94 pg/mL, and 58,12 pg/mL. Based on these results, the combination of extracts has immunomodulatory activity because it can increase IFN-? levels where the highest levels of IFN-? are found in the combination dose of 100 mg/kgBB : 100 mg/kgBB.
