Silae Beach is one of the beaches located in Palu Bay which experienced physical changes to the beach due to the earthquake and tsunami disaster that occurred in September 2018, such as abrasion, sedimentation and changes in the coastline. In an effort to protect the Silae Beach area, a coastal protection has been built in the form of a sea dike. The construction of the sea dike is to prevent damage to coastal areas and as a mooring for fishing boats. Factors that influence surface currents in waters around the coast are generally tides. This research aims to analyze current patterns around coastal protection at Silae Beach using the SMS ADCIRC hydrodynamic model. By using ADCIRC SMS software, the results showed that the current pattern at high tide tends to move towards land dominantly from the east to the northwest with a maximum speed value of 0.00782 m/s where the current moves towards land while at low tide it tends to move from the direction northeast towards the northeast and away from land. The existence of a coastal safety structure that can reduce the current speed from 0.01 m/s to 0.00 m/s. The modeling results also show the influence of coastal protection causing tidal currents at the highest tide to change direction around the structure. This shows that the performance of coastal protection can make current speeds very low and have the potential to cause sediment accumulation. The sediment input will be retained in the embankment because it is not carried away by sea currents.
