Lowland rice farming plays a strategic role in supporting national food security and the regional economy, particularly in production centers such as Banggai Regency, Central Sulawesi Province. Although rice productivity is relatively stable, fluctuations in production indicate potential technical inefficiencies at the farmer level. Differences in the use of tillage tools, particularly two-wheeled and four-wheeled tractors, as well as variations in farmers' socioeconomic characteristics, are thought to influence their ability to optimize production inputs. This study aims to analyze the technical efficiency of lowland rice farming and examine the influence of tillage tool type and farmer characteristics on technical efficiency in Moilong District, Banggai Regency. The research method uses a quantitative approach, combining Stochastic Frontier Analysis to estimate technical efficiency and multiple regression analysis to identify factors that influence it. The data used are primary data from a survey of lowland rice farmers and secondary data from relevant agencies. The results show that most lowland rice farmers in Moilong District have achieved a high level of technical efficiency in the use of both two- and four-wheeled tractors. Age had a negative and significant effect on technical efficiency, while education, family size, access to extension services, access to credit, and farmer income had a positive and significant impact. The type of tractor used did not significantly affect technical efficiency, indicating that efficiency is more determined by farmer characteristics and institutional support than by the kind of mechanization equipment. The research recommendations emphasize strengthening farmer education and training, increasing access to agricultural extension services and credit, and implementing technology-neutral mechanization policies tailored to local conditions to improve technical efficiency and the sustainability of lowland rice farming in Moilong District.
