Abstrak
Melon (Cucumis melo L.) is a horticultural commodity with high economic value and increasing demand. The main challenge in melon cultivation, especially in hydroponic systems in greenhouses, is the efficiency of nutrient solution delivery. This study utilizes Internet of Things (IoT) technology to manage irrigation and nutrients automatically and precisely. The aim of this study was to compare the response of melon plants to various IoT-based nutrient solution delivery intervals and determine the best interval for optimal plant growth and yield. The study was conducted in the greenhouse of the Faculty of Agriculture, Tadulako University, Palu, Central Sulawesi, from May to August 2024. A Randomized Block Design (RBD) was used with four watering interval treatments: D1 (1.5 – 4 minutes), D2 (2 – 4.5 minutes), D3 (2.3 – 5.3 minutes), and D4 (3 – 6 minutes), each replicated 8 times. The results showed that the D4 treatment provided the most optimal effect on the vegetative and generative growth of melon plants, with the highest average height (264.25 cm), the largest number of leaves (41.42), the largest leaf area (199.67 cm²), and the largest fruit diameter (13.4 cm). The D3 treatment produced the highest number of female flowers (34.08 flowers). Sufficient and consistent watering duration in the D4 treatment supports optimal photosynthesis, nutrient absorption, and plant organ development. Therefore, an IoT-based fertigation system with a D4 watering interval is recommended for efficient and productive melon cultivation.
