Abstrak
This study aims to determine the soil physical characteristics under cacao plantation in Petimbe Village, Palolo District, Sigi Regency. The soil physical characteristics was analyzed in the Soil Science Laboratory of the Faculty of Agriculture, Tadulako University, Palu. Disturbed and undisturbed soil samples were taken from three different locations i.e. footslope, backslope and summit. Soil permeability was found to vary from 0.42 cm h-1 to 9.19 cm h-1 whereas lowest soil bulk density was 1.37 g cm-3 and highest 1.53 g cm-3. Soil porosity was from 31.81% to 43.45%. Soil organic matter content ranged between 2.89% to 5.02%. Water content at filed capacity varied from 25.06% to 30.49%. There is a negative correlation either between the soil permeability and soil bulk density or the soil bulk density and the soil organic matter content. Keywords: Cacao plant and soil physical characteristics.
