Abstrak ABSTRACT Edi Cahyadi Identification of Morphological and Physiological Characteristics of Several Local Upland Rice Cultivators under Drought Stress (Supervised by Andi Ete and Sakka Samudin). This research was conducted to determine the level under drought stress where local upland rice cultivars can grow well, determine the morphological and physiological responses in each local upland rice cultivars to the level under drought stress that is located and to know the local upland rice cultivar that is tolerant to the level under drought stress. This research was conducted at the green house; faculties of agriculture, Tadulako University, Palu, from September 2018 to February 2019 this research included a type of experimental design research with a completely randomized design (CRD) factorial pattern. The first factor is the rice cultivar (K) consisting of 4, namely: K: taku rice, K: uva rice, K: jahara rice and K: delima rice. The second factor is drought stress (C) of water supply based on field capacity consisting of 4 treatments, namely: C0: 100% field capacity (control), C1: 85% and field capacity, C2: 70% of field capacity and C1: 55% of field capacity. Drought stress on local upland rice cultivars show an increase in parameters of proline content, root length, root weight ratio, percentage of empty grain but decreased in height of leaf area, maximum number of tillers, number of productive tillers, panicle length, panicle number, crop yields, weight of 100 grains, content of water content, chlorophyll content, stomata size, root dry weight, stem dry weight, leaf dry weight, total leaf area, leaf area, specific leaf area and leaf weight ratio. Drought stress treatment up to 70% of field capacity can still provide good growth for upland plants. Local upland rice cultivars of taku, uva and delima exhibit morphological and physiological characteristics tolerant under drought stress while local upland local jahara rice cultivars exhibit characters that are susceptible under drought stress.
