| Abstrak ABSTRAK KRISTIANTO RANTE LOBO (D10121044) "The Role of Traditional Institutions in Resolving Inherited Land Disputes in Tondon District, North Toraja Regency", Supervisor I: MANGA PATILA, S.H., M.H. Supervisor II: MARINI CITRA DEWI, S.H., M.H. Inheritance land disputes are the most frequent agrarian conflicts in Tondon District, North Toraja Regency. The main causes are disagreements over inheritance distribution, the lack of valid ownership documents, and the clash between modernization and Torajan customary law, which is still highly respected by the community. This study aims to determine the role of customary institutions in Tondon District, which play a central role in resolving inheritance land disputes by prioritizing a customary law-based approach, and to identify the factors that influence customary institutions in handling these disputes. By using empirical juridical methods obtained from interviews and real behavior carried out through direct observation in Tondon Siba'ta Village, the results of the study indicate that customary institutions play a role as the main mediator through customary deliberations (kombongan) that prioritize the values of Tallu Lolona, ma'kampai, and siri'. This approach has succeeded in resolving around 70% of cases peacefully without litigation. Supporting factors for success include high levels of community trust, a strong understanding of customary law, and support for Regional Regulation No. 1 of 2019 concerning the recognition and protection of the rights of customary communities. Conversely, the main inhibiting factors are the influence of modernization, weak land documentation, and third-party intervention. To overcome these obstacles, the Customary Institution began documenting the results of deliberations, educating the younger generation, and strengthening coordination with the government. This study concludes that a customary law-based approach remains highly relevant and effective in maintaining social harmony. Therefore, it is recommended to strengthen the synergy between customary law and state law to ensure the sustainability of the Customary Institution's function in the future.
