Abstrak This study purpose is to analyze the representation of ethnic Chinese parenting based on Roland Barthes' semiotic analysis model. This type of research is descriptive qualitative, with data sources, namely primary data obtained from selected scenes based on the interaction between Mei and her parents and also scenes that highlight aspects of parenting, while secondary data is obtained from a number of literatures, namely book and journal studies. Data were analyzed through observation of the whole movie from beginning to end, and documentation by entering data in the form of pieces of movie images that show the existence of topics that are relevant to the research, namely parenting. The findings based on Roland Barthes' semiotic analysis in Turning Red show that the representation of ethnic Chinese parenting depicted in Turning Red is authoritarian parenting and authoritative parenting. The transition from authoritarian parenting to authoritative parenting is due to the openness of communication between Ming, grandmother Wu, and Mei. Ming recognized her mistakes and failures as a mother and tried to improve her relationship with Mei. Likewise, Ming received an apology and support from Wu's grandmother. It shows that a change from authoritarian to authoritative parenting characterized by open communication, mutual understanding, and mutual support is key in the relationship between parents and children.
