Abstrak Sumarni Zainuddin, B 103 16 029. "Interpersonal Communication of Married Couples Through the Ta'aruf Process in Palu City". Supervised by: Muhammad Khairil and Ilyas Lampe. The objectives of this study are: 1). To determine the role of ta'aruf mediators in mediating married couples through the ta'aruf process carried out before marriage. 2). To find out the process of searching for information carried out by married couples before marriage through the process of ta'aruf. 3). To find out the strategy of postmarital married couples with the process of ta'aruf in maintaining relationships through interpersonal communication. To dissect the substance of this study, the author uses Charles Berger's uncertainty reduction theory in analyzing the process of finding information on married couples through the process of ta'aruf before marriage and Howard Giles' theory of accommodation which will be used to analyze the strategy of married couples in maintaining postmarital relationships through the process of the ta'aruf. The method used is a qualitative approach involving 11 informants consisting of 4 married couples who have been married through the process ta'aruf and 3 ustadz (religious leader), which are set purposively. Data collection through indepth observation and interviews which are then analyzed qualitatively.The results showed that: 1). The role of the mediator in the ta'aruf process before the wedding can provide significant benefits in providing guidance to the bride and groom, identifying and screening out unsuitable candidates, facilitating communication, reducing tensions, bridging differences, avoiding disputes, and all this aims to create a strong, mutually respectful, and harmonious marriage relationship in the future.; 2). The strategy of prospective married couples in the process of seekingn information before marriage in the process of ta'aruf is carried out with passive strategies, active strategies and interactive strategies.; 3). The strategy of married couples in the process of ta'aruf to maintain through interpersonal communication is based on messages in religious teachings and science, understanding responsibility, actively observing and questioning, and making behavioral adjustments to the couple.
