Syufri, B B 103 16 010. “Migration and Socio-Cultural Adaptation of Bugis Ethnic Migrants in Palu City". Supervised by: Muhammad Khairil, Hasan Muhamad, Andi Mascunra Amir. The objective of this research were 1) to find out about the migration process of the Bugis ethnic to Palu City, explain the driving factors in the origin area of South Sulawesi, pull factors in the destination area of Palu City as well as the inhibiting and hindering factors of migrating to Palu City. 2) to know in depth about social interactions and socio-cultural adaptations of the Bugis ethnicity in Palu City. To dissect the substance of this research, the author uses the Migration Theory of Everett S. Lee which will be used in analysing the migration processes of the Bugis Ethnic to Palu City, and the Structural-Functional Theory from Talcott Parson which will be used in analysing the socio-cultural adaptations of the Bugis Ethnic in Palu City. The method used was a qualitative approach involving 9 informants, with details of 7 Bugis and 2 Kaili ethnic informants determined purposively. The results showed that: Bugis Ethnic Migration to the city of Palu was motivated by economic factors due to limited job opportunities and increasingly competitive life along with population growth in the area of origin of South Sulawesi. The cultural value factor "siri", conflicts, and past political upheavals also contributed to the migration of the Bugis ethnic to Palu City. The rapid migration flow of Bugis to Palu City has an impact on social relations, both associative and dissociative which automatically forces Bugis migrants to be more adaptive to the surrounding social environment, therefore, the cultural values possessed by the Bugis Ethnic which are internalized in their lives are expected to be social glue in social interactions in the Palu City region. Keywords: Migration, Social Interaction, Social Adaptation, Cultural Values, Bugis Ethnic
