Abstrak
Students' learning motivation in Science and Social Studies (IPAS) at SD Inpres 8 Mamboro was relatively low, as indicated by limited participation and enthusiasm during classroom learning activities. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the effect of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model on Grade III students’ learning motivation in the IPAS subject at SD Inpres 8 Mamboro. The study employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental method with a Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The sample consisted of 51 students, including 26 students in Class III A as the experimental group and 25 students in Class III B as the control group. Data were collected using a learning motivation questionnaire based on six indicators: perseverance, resilience in facing difficulties, interest in solving problems, independence, preference for challenges, and strong determination. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and the Independent Samples t-test. The results showed that the mean learning motivation score of the experimental group increased from 61.15 in the pre-test to 89.62 in the post-test, while the control group decreased from 58.08 to 54.72. Hypothesis testing revealed a significance value of 0.001 (< 0.05) and a calculated t-value of 30.503, which exceeded the t-table value of 2.009. Furthermore, the effect size analysis yielded a Cohen’s d value of 8.544, indicating a very large effect size. These findings demonstrate that the implementation of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model significantly improves the learning motivation of Grade III students in the IPAS subject at SD Inpres 8 Mamboro.
