ABSTRACT Zur Aenimagfirah (2025). “Effectiveness of the Merdeka Curriculum in Pancasila and Citizenship Education Learning in Building Critical Thinking Skills of Grade VIII B Students at SMPN 02 Bambalamotu. Skripsi, Pancasila and Civic Education Study Program, Department of Social Sciences Education, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Tadulako University. Supervisor: Dwi Septiwiharti. This research aims to describe: (1) The effectiveness of the Merdeka Curriculum in Pancasila and Citizenship Education (PPKn) learning in building the critical thinking skills of Grade VIII B students at SMPN 02 Bambalamotu, and (2) The role of the teacher in implementing the Merdeka Curriculum for the PPKn subject to build students' critical thinking skills. The subjects of this study include the school principal, the vice-principal for curriculum, the PPKn teacher, and the Grade VIII B students of SMPN 02 Bambalamotu. This research used a qualitative descriptive approach with data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results showed that: (1) The effectiveness of the Merdeka Curriculum in building students' critical thinking skills has not been optimal. Although some students have started to show a good understanding of the material and engagement in discussions, the dominance of the lecture method and the lack of project-based activities still make students passive and less confident in expressing their opinions. (2) The teacher's role is very important in creating a contextual and student-centered learning environment. Teachers need to improve their competency in implementing project-based learning methods, discussions, case studies, and reflective approaches so that the Merdeka Curriculum's goal of building critical thinking skills can be achieved to the maximum extent. Keywords: Independent Curriculum, Critical Thinking.
