Abstrak
Problem solving in physics is inseparable from the role of various forms of representation that help in finding solutions to the problems faced. Students 'abilities and skills in using multiple representations determine the level of students' physics problem solving abilities. Students' thinking abilities in solving physics problems tend to be different. Therefore, this study was conducted to analyze the ability of students to solve physics problems using multi-representation. The physics problem referred to here is a physics problem related to business matter and energy. This type of research is a qualitative research with a descriptive-qualitative approach. The subjects in this study consisted of 19 students of Class XI IPA An-Nahl MA MA Insan Cendikia Palu City in the academic year 2019/2020. There are 3 instruments used in the study, namely the respondent selection test consisting of 30 multiple choice questions about business material and energy, problem solving tests using multi representations consisting of 3 numbers of essay questions in which contains 3 forms of representation and must be completed in thinking-aloud , and finally the interview guide. Respondents in this study were 6 students who were selected based on the standard deviation values and the average value obtained at the time of the respondent selection test. Based on the results of research and data analysis conducted shows that the ability of students to solve physical problems about effort and energy using multi-representation is in the poor category with an average percentage of 37.89%. In addition, the highest multi-representation ability was obtained in image representation with an average percentage of 38.75%. This study revealed that high category respondents who received the highest score among other respondents in the selection selection test turned out to have the highest score in the problem solving test by using multi-representation.
