Abstrak The purpose of this study is to obtain a description of the problem-solving analysis of grade VIII students of SMP Negeri 1 Tomini who have high, medium, and low mathematical abilities in solving pythagorean theorem problems. This type of research is qualitative research. The subjects of this study were 3 students who were taken from 24 class VIII students of SMP Negeri 1 Tomini in the even semester of 22021/2022. Subjects are selected based on report card scores and the recommendations of the subject teachers. Data are obtained from the results of written tests and interviews of the subjects of the study. The results of this study show that subjects with high mathematical abilities, can solve well the four steps or indicators of problem solving, namely (Understanding problems, drawing up plans, implementing plans and re-examining). A medium mathematically capable subject can solve 2 steps or indicators of problem solving, namely (Understanding the problem, and re-examining). On the second and third indicators the subject is not able to solve the problem of M1. Subjects of low mathematical ability, in solving problems Pythagorean Theorem from the four indicators of the stages of problem solving the subject can only complete the first stage, which is to understand the problem. At the second stage of drawing up a plan the subject could not draw a right triangle of the M1 problem, in the third indicator the subject was already able to solve the problem but was still incorrect in the use of the count operation, and in the fourth indicator the subject could not solve it because the subject did not re-examine the subject's answer.
