Abstrak
The main problem in this research is the low of student’s study result in class VIII D SMP Negeri 10 Palu on algebra operation. This is caused of the luck of student’s mastery in the concept of integer operation and algebra operations. Beside that,in study process, the teacher prefers to use lecture methods so that the students are never involved to build their own understanding of the material directly. The purpose of this research is to describe the application of scientific approaches that can improve student’s study result on algebra operation in class VIII D SMP Negeri 10 Palu. The design of this research refers to design developed by Kemmis and Mc. Taggart that consist of (1) planning, (2) action and observations, and (3) reflection. Data colected in the form of activiy data sheet teachers and students through observation sheet, interview result, field note, and student’s study result. This research was conducted in two cycles, each cycle consists of two meetings with the taught materials are multiplication operation and algebra division. The research’s results showed that the application of the scientific approach can improve the student result of students of class VIII D SMP Negeri 10 Palu in multiplication operation and algebraic division by following activities as follows: (1) observing; students observe the examples of problem solving steps in LKPD, (2) questioning; students do question and answer together with the teacher and the students each other related to the things observed, (3)reasoning; students process the data obtained after observing and doing question and answer than making conclusion and do presentation, (4) trying; students doing individual questions exercise, and (5) networking; between students and teacher doing collaborative learning on observing and reasoning activities. Thus, we obtain classical completeness that is in the first cycle reached 71.43%. while in cycle II there was in increase to 80%.
