Supervisor (1) Mochtar Marhum (2) Abdul Kamaruddin. This research aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the Kahoot application in improving students’ reading comprehension and learning motivation in narrative text instruction among Grade VIII students at SMP Negeri 3 Menui Satap. The research employed a Classroom Action Research design consisting of two cycles—planning, action, observation, and reflection—involving 14 students in the 2025/2026 academic year. Data were collected through reading comprehension tests, observation checklists, field notes, reflection sheets, and questionnaires. Quantitative data were analyzed using mean scores and mastery learning percentages, while qualitative data were analyzed descriptively to examine students’ engagement and classroom interaction. The results shows measurable improvement in students’ reading achievement and motivation. In Cycle I, only 35.71% of students achieved the Minimum Passing Grade (KKM = 75), with a mean score of 65.14. After revising instructional strategies and strengthening guided comprehension practice in Cycle II, the percentage of students achieving mastery exceeded the predetermined 80% success criterion with a mean score of 80.14, accompanied by a substantial increase in the class mean score. Qualitative findings also revealed higher levels of activeness, confidence, enthusiasm, and positive perceptions toward Kahoot-based learning. These findings indicate that Kahoot is an effective game-based learning tool for enhancing reading comprehension and motivation, particularly in rural secondary school contexts.
