Abstrak
This research is about students’ perception of the use Google Translate as a tool for English translation: A case study at Undergraduate Students. The objective of this research is to find out the student's positive and negative perceptions by using Google translate application in Tadulako University. This research applied a descriptive qualitative research design. The respondent of this research was the sixth semester English Education students. The data were collected collection techniques used closed-ended questionnaires and semi structured interviews. In this research, the interviews were conducted with five respondents, while the questionnaires were filled in by 54 respondents from 242 students. Data analysis in this study uses data collection, data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing/verifying. The main findings of this research that most students really like using google translate application as a tool for translating English text because the low cost of time and price. Students can translate text faster than open a dictionary. Google translate help students to improve them translation skills with good intonation. Unfortunately, this speed is not offset by the accuracy of using google translate application, Students' problems related to grammatical inaccuracies suggest that although fast, the tool may not always be accurate in grammatical aspects. This research has implications for English language teaching both in theory and practice. The use of GTA has been a part of educational process and this research promotes it in EFL learning classroom. In practice, the use of GTA effectively arises student’s interest to learn as well as allows them to achieve better learning outcomes. L2 learners experience the autonomy in exploring digital resources and documents that represent a powerful framework for many aspects of SLA, enhancing oral, written, and reading competence.” In other words, the use of GTA gives benefits for English language learners.
