Abstrak
The purpose of this study is to investigate learners’ practice related to autonomous language learning. The study employed descriptive qualitative research with three stages, such as. data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing or verification. The sample group of the study consisted of 76 participants batch 2021 from Grammar Class at English Education and Study Program of Tadulako University. The instruments for collecting data were questionnaire consisting of twenty-three items, in-depth interview in form of Focus Group Discussion, and documentation. The results of an investigation on the documentation like the score of students’ final study from 1st semester until 3rd semester led to the learners being classified as High, Moderate, or Low. In order to know the influence of autonomous learner to successful and unsuccessful learners. From the questionnaires’ data, it can be inferred that the students have practiced autonomous learning in the way of Listened to English songs, watched English movies, read English notices around, practiced using English with friends, and noted down new words and their meanings. Then, in term of autonomous learning, female students were more active than male students. The results of FGD showed that students were experiencing the autonomous learning in Grammar Class like studying in group, learning with YouTube Videos, using PPT as the instructional media and analyzing the error analysist by themselves. The end-of-the year achievement grades of the learners were also analyzed to shed light on the difference between successful and unsuccessful learners’ practice. The outcome showed that successful learners sometimes practice the autonomous learning and unsuccessful learners rarely practice it. As a result, this study has the potential to broaden understanding about learners’ implementation on autonomous language learning and the influence of autonomous learning on students’ achievement.
