Abstrak
ABSTRACT Suritnawaty, A 122 20 008. Investigating Digital Literacy of English Teachers of Junior High Schools In Palu, Magister of English Education Study Program, Postgraduate Program, Tadulako University, under the Supervision of Aminah and Mukrim Teachers in the Industrial Revolution 4.0 era are expected to have high digital literacy scale and readiness toward the application of digital technologies as an effort to fulfill the necessities of millenials or digital native generation in the classroom. Some studies had investigated teachers9 digital literacy level, but leaving the teachers9 behavior in implementing the digital literacy in the class and the obstacles they might encounter behind. This mixed-method research was conducted to investigate the digital literacy of English teachers of Junior High Schools in Palu. It was also aimed at investigating how the English teachers manifest digital literacy in teaching English in the class and what obstacles they encountered during the process. 36 English Teachers who were teaching at Junior High Schools in Palu were involved in this research. The data were collected by using questionnaire and in-depth interview. The questionnaire result shows that the English teachers have high digital literacy level. The qualitative data obtained from in- depth interview implies the use of some media and applications like WhatssApp, Canva, Google classroom, Merdeka Mengajar as the most frequent accessed to implement digital literacy in teaching. Lack of digital facilities, limited access of internet, lack of teacher9s digital literacy and students9 device ownership were among the issues of the obstacles in implementing digital literacy in the class. More attention from schools and policy makers is highly expected regarding the availability of infrastructure in schools and digital training for teachers that supports increasing digital literacy.
