Abstrak This classroom action research aimed to improve reading comprehension of the tenth grade students at SMA Negeri 2 Dampelas by using story mapping techniques. The subject of this research was X IPA 1 which consisted of 30 students. This research was conducted in two cycles where each cycle comprised four stages such as planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The researcher set four meetings for each cycle. Firstly, the researcher carried out the teaching of narrative text by using story mapping technique for three meetings. Then researcher applied an evaluation in the last meeting to find out individual achievement of each student. The data of this research were obtained from the result of the test, observation sheet and field notes, during the implementation of the action. The finding revealed in cycle 1 that there were 16 students who succeeded in doing the test and the rest were not. The percentage was 47%. Regarding to the result, then the researcher decided to revise some plans in cycle 2. The researcher planned to divide the students into groups and to give them some comprehension question. That way, students’ understanding was refined through discussion and explanation as well as building their whole comprehension about narrative text. The findings of the meeting in cycle 2 revealed that many students were able to show their active participation in the classroom activities and to understand the story after responding comprehension questions. The result in the form of numerical data in cycle 2 showed there were 27 students out of 30 who achieved the criterion of success in this research. The percentage was 90%. The research was completed in cycle 2 because the result showed that the criterion of success 75% has been achieved. |
