| Abstrak ABSTRACT Sri Sulastri. A 121 09 016. “The Use of Photographs As Media in Improving Writing Skill of Recount Text of the Tenth Grade Students at SMA Negeri 1 Sindue Tombusabora”, under the supervisions of Mochtar Marhum and Sriati Usman. The objective of this study is to find out whether the use of photographs as media has significant effect to improve the writing skill of recount text of the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Sindue Tombusabora. This study applied quasi experimental research design involving two samples; they are experimental group and control group. The populations of the study was the tenth grade at SMA Negeri 1 Sindue Tombusabora. The sample was selected by using simple random sampling technique. The sample were X MIPA1 as experimental group and X MIPA2 as control group. In collecting the data, the test was administered twice as pretest and posttest. Then the data were analyzed statistically using the t-test in order to compare mean scores obtained from two groups. The score of experimental group in the pretest was 28.76 and in the posttest was 64.76. While, the scores of control group in the pretest was 26.12 and in the posttest was 47.68. The mean scores of experimental and control groups were compared to have the value of t-counted, that is 5.19. Then this score was compared with the value t-table to see the level of significance that is set up at 0.05 with 48 degree of freedom (df= 25 + 25 – 2= 48). From this comparison, it indicates that t-value or t-counted 5.19 is higher than t-table 2.0126. In conclusion, the use of photographs as media has significant effect to improve the writing skill of recount text of the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Sindue Tombusabora.
