Abstrak
Rahmat Dwi Wahyudi. A 122 16 002. Teaching Tenses To Students of SMA Al-Azhar Mandiri Palu By Using Tenses Structural Simplification Technique (A Classroom Action Research), under the supervision of H. Mochtar Marhum, and Sudarkam R. Mertosono. This research aims at investigating whether or not the use of timeline can simplify the tenses structures of the X grade students of SMA Al-Azhar Mandiri Palu. The researcher applied classroom action research in conducting the research. The number of grade ten students of SMA Al-Azhar Mandiri Palu are 155. Since the researcher only needs sample from the students who learn the English subject, the samples were selected by using purposive sampling. The data was collected by using instruments namely observation, interview and questionnaire. The questionnaire was distributed to the tenth grade students related to the learning about English tenses. The researcher suggests that the English teacher could implement the tenses structural simplification technique in teaching English tenses. This research requires more than 1 cycle so that the researcher did the research in 2 cycles. The data acquired in the first cycle showed that 70% (21 of 30 students) of students reached score above 65 while 30% (9 of 30 students) of them were under 65. This data showed that the first cycle had not been successful because it had not reached the classical achievement that is why the researcher should make a second cycle to reach the classical achievement. In the second cycle, the data showed that 83% (25 of 30 students) score above 65 while 17% (5 of 30 students) still got score under 65. Keywords: Tenses, Teaching, Structural, Simplification
