ABSTRACT SAKINA. S A12121248. This Skripsi is entitled “An Analysis of Errors in the Use of Simple Present Tense in Descriptive Text Written by Students at SMKN 5 Palu”. Skripsi, English Education Study Program. Language And Arts Education Department. Faculty of Teacher Training and Education. Under The Supervision of Konder Manurung and Nadrun. This research aimed to find out the type of errors made by the students using the simple present tense in descriptive text and the most dominant types of errors made by the students. This research quantitative with descriptive approach. The subject was selected by using total sampling. The subject of the research was the tenth-grade students of SMKN 5 Palu consisted of 15 students. The techniques for collecting the data were written descriptive texts. This research focused on identifying and categorizing the types of grammatical errors, specifically examining omission, addition, misformation, and misordering errors, as outlined in Dulay's Surface Strategy Taxonomy. The findings revealed that omission errors were the most prevalent, accounting for approximately 57.97% of total errors, indicating significant difficulties with subject-verb agreement and the correct application of auxiliary verbs. Addition errors followed at 18.84%, while misformation and misordering errors constituted 14.49% and 8.70%, respectively. These results underscored the need for targeted instructional strategies to address the specific grammatical challenges faced by students. The study concluded that enhancing grammar instruction and incorporating error analysis into the learning process could significantly improve students' writing proficiency and overall command of the English language.
