Skripsi, English Education Study Program, Department of Language and Art Education, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Tadulako University, the Supervisor (1) Nur Sehang Thamrin (2) Agussatriana. This study examined the use of self-assessment as a teaching strategy to improve descriptive text writing skills among third-semester students at Tadulako University. Using a quasi-experimental design, the research compared the outcomes of students practicing self-assessment with those receiving conventional instruction. Pre-tests and post-tests were used to evaluate the effectiveness of this approach. The results indicate that self-assessment enhances writing proficiency by developing students' metacognitive awareness, motivation, and autonomy. Students in the experimental group showed notable improvements in coherence, grammar, and vocabulary. The study underscores self-assessment's potential to foster reflection and goal setting, contributing to more engaged and independent learners. These findings suggest that self-assessment is a valuable tool for educators aiming to strengthen students' writing abilities and encourage deeper learning. Expanding its use to other writing genres and learning contexts offers promising avenues for future research. Keywords: Self-assessment, descriptive text, writing ability. |
