This study aims to analyze the effect of the storytelling strategy on the speaking ability of eighth-grade students at SMP Kristen Bala Keselamatan Palu. The research employed a quasi-experimental method using a pre-test–post-test control group design. The population of this study consisted of all eighth-grade students of SMP Kristen Bala Keselamatan Palu in the 2025/2026 academic year, totaling 89 students distributed across three classes. The sample was selected using a cluster random sampling technique, resulting in two classes as the research samples: one class as the experimental group and one class as the control group. The experimental group was taught using the storytelling strategy, while the control group was taught using a traditional teaching approach. The research data were collected through speaking tests administered before and after the treatment. The results of the study indicate that there was a significant difference in speaking ability between students taught using the storytelling strategy and those taught using the traditional teaching approach. Statistical analysis revealed that the t-observed value (3) was higher than the t-table value (2) at the 5% significance level with 58 degrees of freedom. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the storytelling strategy has a significant effect on improving the speaking ability of eighth-grade students at SMP Kristen Bala Keselamatan Palu.
