Nuraisya (A12121057). “The Effect of Folktales on Improving Reading Comprehension of the Tenth-Grade Students at Man 1 Palu”. Skripsi, English Education Study Program, Language and Art Education Departmen, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Tadulako University. Under the supervision of Sriati Usman, and Desrin Lebagi. This research aimed to investigate the effect of using folktales on improving reading comprehension among tenth-grade students at MAN 1 Palu. The study applied a quasiexperimental design involving two groups: an experimental group taught using folktales and a control group taught using conventional reading materials. The instruments used were pre-tests and post-tests in the form of multiple-choice and essay questions focusing on literal reading comprehension. The results revealed that the students in the experimental group demonstrated a significant improvement in their reading comprehension scores after the treatment. The mean score of the experimental group increased from 28.21 in the pre-test to 49.95 in the post-test, while the control group showed a smaller improvement from 28.45 to 30.05. The Mann-Whitney U test confirmed a significant difference between the two groups with a significance value of 0.007. It indicated that the alternative hypothesis was accepted and the null hypothesis was rejected. Thus, the integration of folktales in the learning process proved effective in improving the reading comprehension skills of tenth-grade students at MAN 1 Palu.
