Abstrak Andi Ardini (A12121056) The Correlation between Vocabulary Mastery and Reading Comprehension of Students' at the Eleventh Grade of SMA Negeri 1 Palu. A skripsi, English Education Study Program, Language and Arts Department, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Tadulako University. Under the supervision of Drs. Mochtar Marhum, M.Ed., Ph.D. and Drs. Muhammad Arid, M.Pd. This research examined whether there was a connection between vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension among eleventh-grade students at SMA Negeri 1 Palu. Vocabulary was considered important because it helped students understand what they read. The goal of the study was to find out if having a greater vocabulary helped students understand reading texts better. The method used was quantitative with a correlational design, involving 73 students who took vocabulary and reading tests. Since the data were not normally distributed, the researcher used the Spearman Rank Correlation to analyze the results. The results showed a very weak positive correlation (r = 0.177) with a significance value of 0.135, which meant that the relationship was not significant. In conclusion, the study found that vocabulary mastery did not have a strong or significant effect on students’ reading comprehension. Other factors such as reading habits, interest, and background knowledge may also have influenced reading skills. Keywords: Correlation, vocabulary mastery, and reading comprehensio |
