Abstrak
ABSTARCT Selviana H (A12121051) The Effect of Duolingo Application In Teaching Vocabulary Mastery For Student’s of SMA Negeri 1 Dampal. A skripsi, English Education Study Program, Language and Arts Departement, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Tadulako University. Under the supervision of Dr. H. Jamiluddin, M.Hum. and Afrillia Anggreni, S.Pd.I., M.Pd. This research investigates the effectiveness of the Duolingo application in enhancing vocabulary mastery among eleventh-grade students at SMA Negeri 1 Dampal. The study addresses critical issues such as limited vocabulary knowledge, low motivation, and insufficient speaking practice, which hinder students' language development. By employing a cluster random sampling method, the research involved a pretest and posttest design to evaluate students' vocabulary acquisition before and after using the Duolingo application. The vocabulary assessment included various question formats, such as making sentences, multiple-choice, and matching exercises, to ensure a comprehensive evaluation of students' understanding of concrete nouns, action verbs, and descriptive adjectives. The findings reveal a significant improvement in students' vocabulary mastery, as indicated by a t-count value of 72,25, surpassing the ttable value of 1.677. This suggests that the Duolingo application effectively enhances students' vocabulary acquisition and overall language proficiency. The study concludes that integrating innovative teaching methods, such as gamified learning through Duolingo, can significantly boost students' motivation and engagement in language learning. Recommendations for teachers include exploring diverse teaching strategies that cater to various learning styles and encouraging students to actively participate in language practice through interactive features of the application. Overall, this research contributes valuable insights into the role of technology in language education and its potential to transform traditional learning approaches.
