Abstrak Akbar Ferdiansyah (A12121022) Effectiveness of Peer Assessment in Learning Vocabulary (A Quasy-Experimental Research at SMP Negeri 10 PALU) Skripsi, English Education Study Program, Language and Art Department, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Tadulako University. Under the Supervisor of Nur Sehang Thamrin and Maghfira. This study examined the effectiveness of using peer assessment in improving students' vocabulary knowledge at SMP Negeri 10 PALU. The quantitative approach used in this study was a quasi-experimental design. The sample was selected using purposive sampling based on the observation of students' language competence and learning enthusiasm. The population of this study was grade 9 students where grade 9 Cumi-Cumi (N=19) as the experimental group and grade 9 Tembang (N=26) as the control group. Data collection was divided into 2 sessions, namely pre-test and post-test. The statistical analysis used in this study was the Mann-Whitney U Test because the research data obtained was not normally distributed. The results of the study compared the average scores obtained by students in the experimental class in the pre-test and post-test and the results showed a decrease. This is shown by calculations using the SPSS 24 software system where the sig value (2-tailed) = 0.181> 0.05, which means that the null hypothesis is accepted and the alternative hypothesis is rejected. In conclusion, this study shows that peer assessment does not have a significant impact in improving students' vocabulary knowledge. This study suggests that future researchers can investigate other factors that may affect the ineffectiveness of peer assessment. |
