Abstrak Ihwan (A12120249). This Skripsi is entitled Teaching Speaking by Using Project- Based Learning to the Eighth Grade Students of SMP Negeri 1 Palu. English Education Study Program, Language and Art Education Department, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Tadulako University, under the supervision of Nadrun and Anjar Kusuma Dewi. The objective of this research is to prove whether Project Based Learning (PjBL) can improve students' speaking ability. With a pre-experiment design, this study involved 32 eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Palu. selected by using purposive sampling technique from the Ramah Anak classroom. The date were collected through speaking test which was conducted twice, namely pre-test and post- test. The results of statistical analysis showed that the average pre-test score was 36.25, while the post-test score increased to 78.12, signaling a significant improvement after the treatment. In addition, the t-count (18.69) was greater than the t-table (1.696), indicating that, teaching speaking by using project-based learning can improve the speaking ability of the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Palu.The implication of this finding to teaching practice is that teachers need to use Project Based Learning method in teaching speaking in order for students' speaking ability to be better.
