Abstrak
This study aimed to determine whether the application of choral reading and repeated reading strategies could improve the reading comprehension of grade VIII students of SMP Negeri 20 Sigi. The study applied a quasi-experimental research of 46 design. The research sample consisted students from class VIII SMP Negeri 20 Sigi. Cluster random sampling was used to select the sample, which included an experimental group and a control group. The instruments used in this study were multiple-choice tests and essay tests comprising pre-tests and post-tests. The data were statistically analyzed to determine the significant difference between students' reading comprehension before and after the treatment. The results showed that the mean score in the pre-test of the experimental group was 45.96, while that of the control group was 50.30. In the post-test, there was a significant increase in students' reading comprehension; the average score of the experimental group was 81.35, whereas that of the control group was 76.04. This was indicated by a sig. (2- tailed) value of 0.000, which was smaller than 0.05, resulting in a correlation value of 0.696. Based on the results of the study, it was concluded that the hypothesis was accepted. In other words, applying choral and repeated reading improved the reading comprehension of eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 20 Sigi.
