Abstrak This research aims to determine whether using STAD strategy can improve the reading comprehension of the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 16 Palu. This research used a quasi-experimental design consisting of two groups (experimental and control). The samples were VIIIA (experimental group) and VIII C (control group) selected by using random sampling technique. The instrument used was a test consisting of pre-test and post-test. The data were analyzed statistically to determine the difference in scores between the experimental group and the control group. The results of data analysis showed that there was a significant difference between the mean score of the post-test in the experimental group and the control group. Whereas the mean score in the experimental group (79.08) was higher than the mean score of the control group (63.69). After analyzing the data, the researcher found that the t-count value (4.00) was higher than the t-table value (1.674) using a significance level of 0.05 and degrees of freedom (df) 29+28-2. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the STAD strategy can improve the reading comprehension of the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 16 Palu. |
