Abstrak Evayanti (A121 20 190). This skripsi is entitled “Improving Speaking Skill of the Eighth Grade Students of SMPN 19 Palu through the use of Buzz Group Technique”. English Education Study Program, Department of Language and Art Education, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Tadulako University, under the Supervision of Darmawan and Wahyudin. The objective of this research is to find out the implementation of Buzz Group Technique in improving speaking skill of the eighth grade students at SMPN 19 Palu. The researcher applied a quasi-experimental research design. The sample of the research were 25 students from class VIII B as the experimental group and 21 students from class VIII C as the control group. The instruments of data collection used in this research were pre-test and post-test. The experimental group was given treatment by applying Buzz Group Technique in teaching speaking skill, whereas the control group, the researcher used conventional methods. Based on the data analysis, it was found that there are significant differences between the score of the experimental group and the control group. The results indicated that the experimental group had a higher mean score on the post-test compared to the control group. The experimental group has a mean post-test score of 80.5 while the control group has 64.2 Additionally, the t-test calculation showed that the t-counted (3.422) was higher than the t-table (1.680). Therefore, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted, and the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. It can be concluded the use of Buzz Group Technique is improving speaking skill of the eight grade of SMPN 19 Palu. Keywords: Improving, Speaking Skill, Buzz Group Technique |
