Abstrak Fitria Amalia (A 121 20 188). “Improving Reading Comprehension of Grade XI Students through RCRR (Read, Cover, Remember, and Retell) Strategy of SMAN 5 Palu”. Skripsi, English Education Study Program, Language and Education Department, Teacher, Training, and Education Faculty, Tadulako University, Under the Supervision of Mawardin M. Said and Co-Supervisor Afrillia Anggreni. The objective of the research is to find out whether or not the use of RCRR (Read, Cover, Remember, and Retell) strategy can improve reading comprehension of grade XI students of SMAN 5 Palu. The researcher used quasi experimental research design which involved two classes, namely experimental and control class. The population was the students grade XI. The samples of this research was XI IPA 2 which consisted of 36 students and XI IPA 5 consisted of 36 students. The sample were selected by using simple random sampling. The focus of the research was limited on interpretative level comprehension. The instrument of the data was test and the test consisted of pretest and posttest. The result of this research shows that t-counted is (13.89) greater that t-table is (1.669). There was improvement of the students reading comprehension. It means that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and null hypothesis (H0) was rejected. It is concluded that the use of RCRR (Read, Cover, Remember, and Retell) strategy can improve reading comprehension of the grade XI students. Thus, the results of this research can be used as a recommendation to English teachers to use RCRR strategy as a learning alternative in teaching reading, especially reading comprehension in schools.
