Abstrak ABSTRACT Afriliani Lestari (A12120121) “Employing Talking Stick Technique to Develop Speaking Ability of Eight Grade Students of SMP Negeri 19 Palu”. English Education Study Program, Language and Art Education Departement, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Under the Supervision of Abd. Kamaruddin and Maf’ulah. This study aimed to prove whether employing the Talking Stick technique develops the speaking ability of the eighth-grade students of SMP Negeri 19 Palu. This is a quantitative study, and the researcher employed a quasi-experimental design with pre-tests and post-tests to measure the development of students’ speaking abilities. The findings reveal a significant improvement in the student's speaking abilities after the implementation of the Talking Stick Technique. The data gathered were analyzed statistically to find out the significant difference between the experimental and control groups. The data indicates that the mean scores of the post-test of the experimental group (60.26) were higher than the control group (47.70). Moreover, based on the analysis of the hypothesis showed that T-test> T-table (2.262.>1.676). It means that the hypothesis of the research is accepted. In conclusion, employing the Talking Stick technique can develop the speaking ability of grade eight students of SMP Negeri 19 Palu. Keywords: Talking Stick Technique, Speaking Ability, Develop |
