Abstrak
The objective of this research is to prove whether or not the use of Text Twist Game can develop vocabulary of the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 15 Palu. This research used a quasi experimental research design. The population of this research was the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 15 Palu which consisted of 5 classes. The sample was selected by using a purposive sampling technique. The reason for choosing it is to specifically select participants having certain characteristics or experience relevant to this research. The sample of this research was 30 students from class VII A as the experimental group and 30 students from class VII B as the control group. The instrument used to collect the data was a vocabulary test. The test was administrated twice called pre-test before the treatment and post-test done after the treatment. The experimental group was treated by using Text Twist Game to teach vocabulary, whereas the control group was treated using conventional method or teacher-centered learning systems. The data analysis demonstrated significant differences between the post-test scores of the experimental and control group. The mean score of the experimental group in the post-test was 56.33, compared to 30 for the control group. Furthemore, the test computation showed that the t-count (97-20) was higher than the t-table (0.117). It means that the t-value of the t-counted is higher than the t-value of table. It can be concluded that the hypothesis is accepted, it indicates that the use of text twist game technique can improve vocabulary mastery of the seventh grade students at SMP Negeri 15 Palu.
