Muhammad Ali Akbar (A12120105) Using Picture Cards in Teaching Reading Comprehension at the eighth-grade students of SMP Negeri 4 Palu. A Skripsi, English Education Study Program Language and Art Education Department, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Tadulako University, under the supervision of Nadrun and Andi Patmasari. This research investigates the effectiveness of picture cards as media to improve reading comprehension of the eighth-grade students of SMP Negeri 4 Palu. This research used a quasi-experimental design. The sample involved were 22 students from Grade VIII Anggrek as the experimental group and 22 students of Grade VIII Seroja as the control group, selected through purposive sampling technique. As the English teacher recommended these two classes based on their similar reading proficiency levels. This ensured that the experimental and control groups were comparable, allowing for a more accurate assessment of the effectiveness of picture cards in improving reading comprehension. Reading test were conducted before and after the intervention, serving as pre-test and post-test. The results showed an improvement in students’ reading comprehension, with the average pre-test score rising from 51.22 (categorized as poor) to 68.81 (categorized as fair) after the intervention. Statistical analysis revealed the t-counted value of 2.604, was greater than the t-table value of 1.682 at the 0.05 significance level and 42 degrees of freedom. This led to the rejection of the null hypothesis (H0)) and the acceptance of the alternative hypothesis (H1), confirming that the picture cards improve the students' reading comprehension.
