A Skripsi, English Education Study Program, Language and Art Education Department, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Tadulako University, Under the supervision of Nadrun and Anjar Kusuma Dewi. This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of using guided questions as a technique for teaching speaking skills at the eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Sigi. A quasi-experimental design was employed, specifically a nonequivalent control group design with 27 students assigned to the experimental group and 29 to the control group. The sample in this research use a purposives ampling technique, included XI MIPA 2 as the experimental group and XI MIPA 1 as the control group. Data were collected and analyzed using statistical methods. Speaking tests were administered before and after the treatment, referred to as pretests and post-tests, respectively. The results indicated a significant improvement in students’ speaking abilities, with the mean pre-test score of 40 points (poor classification) rising to 53.33 points (fair classification) in the post-test. Statistical analysis revealed a t-counted value of 4.09, which was higher than the t-table value of 0.0091 at the 0.05 significance level and 54 degrees of freedom. Consequently, the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected, and the alternative hypothesis (H1) was accepted, demonstrating that the use of guided questions significantly improved students’ speaking skills. These findings support the integration of guided questions as an effective technique in teaching speaking, encouraging active participation and improved oral proficiency.
