Abstrak
ABSTRACT Efrin Junet Hoti (A12120089), Using Instagram to Improve Writing Skills of the Tenth Grade Students of SMA Negeri 4 Sigi, Skripsi, English Education Study Program, Language and Art Education Department, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Tadulako University, under the supervision of Rofiqoh and Andi Patmasari. This research is aimed at proving whether using Instagram can improve writing skills of the tenth-grade students of SMA Negeri 4 Sigi. This research used a quasi-experimental research design with a sample of 50 students selected using a cluster random sampling technique. In gathering the data, the instrument used was a writing test administered twice as pre-test and post-test. The pre-test was given to the experimental and control groups before the treatment while the post-test was carried out to both groups after the treatment. The mean score of the experimental group on the pre-test was 38.82 and the control group was 45.87. Furthermore, the mean score of the experimental group on the post-test was 64.32 while the control group was 59.54. By using a degree of freedom (df) 48 and a significance level of 0.05, it shows that the t-counted value (4.48) is higher than the t-table value (1.678). It means that the hypothesis of this research is accepted. In other words, using Instagram can improve the writing skills of the tenth-grade students of SMA Negeri 4 Sigi. The implication of this finding for the teaching practice in a classroom is that the teacher needs to use Instagram for better results of students’ writing quality.
