Abstrak ABSTRACT Nur Aliya (A12120086), The Use of Role, Audience, Format, and Topic (RAFT) Strategy to Improve Writing Skill of the Tenth Grade Students of SMA Negeri 1 Ampana Kota, Skripsi, English Education Study Program, Language and Art Education Department, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Tadulako University, under the supervision of Rofiqoh and Andi Patmasari. This research is aimed at proving whether the use of RAFT Strategy can improve writing skills of the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Ampana Kota. This research used a pre-experimental research design with a sample of 36 students selected using a purposive sampling technique. A purposive sampling technique was chosen because it focused on students who had below average writing skills. The class selected was class X A. Furthermore, research data were collected through writing test administered twice as pre-test and post-test. The pre-test was administered to the experimental group before the treatment while the post-test was administered after the treatment. The researcher collected and analyzed data using the formula proposed by Arikunto (2006). The mean score of the pre-test is 37.50. Then, the mean score the post-test is 73.05. The data were statistically analyzed using the t-test formula with degrees of freedom (df) = N - 1 = 36 - 1 = 35. The analysis results shows that the t-counted value is 25.37 while the t-table value is 2.030. This means that the t-counted value is higher than the t-table value. Therefore, the research hypothesis is accepted. This finding has answered the research question that the use of the RAFT strategy can improve writing skill of the tenth-grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Ampana Kota. This finding implies that teachers need to use the RAFT strategy in teaching writing skills designed to make students able to express ideas, perform better writing and develop their creative thinking in class.
